Kathryn's gorgeous pieces have fluttered through our stores for years now. Her most popular piece in our stores is 'Calling Me Back', which pictures two Huia birds seated on upright paddles, amongst a mountainous green-toned landscape.
One of her newest pieces, Tui's Gift, is reminiscent of Calling Me Back. In Tui's Gift, an oar makes an appearance beneath the Tūī. Kathryn has previously recalled that she uses oars to "represent travel to and from far off places we have been, whether in reality or in our dreams". The beautiful Tūī is pictured at the forefront of a gorgeous blue and green-toned mountainous region. Our stunning native Kōwhai makes an appearance as well, pictured dangling at the very front of the landscape, alongside a butterfly wing.
Kathryn Furniss resides in Nelson with her husband and two sons. Throughout her life, Kathryn has been encouraged to explore her creativity, being brought up with an artistic father. Kathryn is self-taught, and draws inspiration from the gorgeous pacific landscape, objects and native birds. She paints in acrylic and ink, using these mediums to build up layers, which brings a surreal depth to each piece. Over the past 18 years, Kathryn has participated in a number of successful exhibitions throughout New Zealand, and the rest of the world. We are so excited to continue to share her talent with all of you. We hope you love Kathryn's newest piece at Creative & Brave as much as we do!
