Irina Velman is a painter based in the West Auckland. Irina is Russian born and travelled around the world before settling down Waitakere. Irina is known for her styler of vibrant paintings and she describes painting as her source of happiness. Her surroundings fuel her creativity and are the subject of a lot of her works.

“I believe in the healing power of art- both for the artist and the viewer. It helps restore emotional balance, heal stress and reconnect with nature. West Auckland where I live is a great place: the nature here is beautiful, the art community is flourishing and you can't run out of inspiration. My art is mainly influenced by Paul Gauguin (a touch of mystery, dream of a better world), Marianne North (eternal love for botanical drawings) and Russian traditional applied art that I love for brilliant colours on black background and intricate patterns.”
