Kūkuruatu Matted Print A4

Kūkuruatu (NZ Dotterel, tūturiwhatu, pohowera, piopio) are an endangered species of shorebird found only in certain areas of NZ. There are two subspecies, one found only in the North Island, the other in the South. They are closely related to the larger, similarly endangered NZ banded dotterel. Nesting in spring and summer, they make just a shallow scrape on the beach above the high tide line. The eggs camouflage well in their surroundings and are about 4.5cm, making them very difficult to spot, so it's very important to pay attention to signage around beaches!

  • This A4 Matted Print measures 278mm x 352mm.
  • Acid-free cotton paper.
  • UV Lightfast inks.
  • Signed and dated.

Tara Cassidy

Tara is an artist based in West Auckland, a place which she credits for her love and curiosity for the abundant natural flora and fauna of Aotearoa. While her tertiary studies initially began with biological sciences, Tara instead followed her passion for creativity and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in 2016. Her pieces are striking, as she works primarily with pencils; for intricate depictions of native wildlife of Aotearoa. Since 2018 she has been working with Angie and selling her pieces, continuing to develop her eye for detail and an impressive ability to convey textures through pencil alone - we love to admire and explore her amazing works!
