“I’ve been lucky in that I’ve always wanted to be an artist, ever since I was a kid, and my mum and whanau kind of pushed me to pursue what I loved, which was always art. I’ve loved art pretty much since I could draw”. A multi-talented artist, who has produced her works across a variety of mediums - Miriama Grace Smith is a full time artist, based in Pōneke Wellington where she works from her studio at Toi Pōneke Arts Centre. Miriama has dabbled in a variety of projects, from creative arts, murals, fashion and film. Her dynamic and vibrant designs capture a beautiful blend of her own Maori heritage, and the new wave of contemporary Maori arts.
