Tania Tupu

Beginning in 2006, Tania Tupu has been creating and making jewellery for galleries across Aotearoa - inspired by Maori and Pacific adornment, but with a contemporary twist. She designs each piece, makes a mould and casts it, the end result being beautiful pieces of wearable art. A lot of Tania’s designs are heavily inspired by her Māori heritage, particularly the carvings and panels found in Wharenui (meeting house).
After retiring from the Tall Ferns - NZ’s Women’s basketball team, she decided to put a focus on her creativity, thanks to her aunty advising her to find a new passion - and after studying a korowai weaving course in the Waikato, she relocated to Raglan to open a store. Along the way the journey has led to her settling in the beautiful Titahi Bay where she now lives with her husband and two sons, and there she continues to create and make her jewellery, which we are so pleased to support and showcase.
