Tara Cassidy on Kea: "Kea are a large parrot species with a wingspan of about 1 metre. They are one of the most intelligent birds in the world and are found only in NZ. Their curiosity and ability to solve logical puzzles comes in handy in their harsh and rocky sub-alpine habitats throughout the South Island. I've drawn the kea here with Snow Tōtara, also endemic to NZ and found in sub-alpine areas throughout the country and can be a rich source of vegetable fats for the kea."

Tara is an artist based in West Auckland, a place which she credits for her love and curiosity for the abundant natural flora and fauna of Aotearoa. While her tertiary studies initially began with biological sciences, Tara instead followed her passion for creativity and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in 2016. Her pieces are striking, as she works primarily with pencils; for intricate depictions of native wildlife of Aotearoa. Since 2018 she has been working with Angie and selling her pieces, continuing to develop her eye for detail and an impressive ability to convey textures through pencil alone - we love to admire and explore her amazing works!
