Wearing Glass - Isla Osborne

For Isla Osborne, Wearing Glass started as a part time creative adventure and has developed into a full time passion for creating hand-made glass works. Each piece of jewellery is totally unique, as every piece is made by sculpting molten glass using a blowtorch powered with oxygen and natural gas, and beads are made one at a time, thus every piece of glass tells a story. "Lampworking is an ancient and magical process, with a chemistry that borders on alchemy and as an artist I find its lure irresistible."
Isla lived and worked in London for 10 years, exhibiting internationally before returning to Aotearoa in 2007 to start a family - where the traditional glass studio she works out of is now based, in Grey Lynn. As well as being a family business, the team individually hand-crafts products using techniques that date back thousands of years, and Isla is proud to keep this ancient tradition alive for the next generation of craftspeople.
