Through World War Two people were discouraged from spending money on anything frivolous and ornamental. As a result, the Crown Lynn Swan became a popular item and was seen as a vase, despite its impractical opening! From the late 1940’s the large white glazed swan was being mass produced and was a popular gift for weddings, birthdays, housewarmings and Mother’s Day. The practice of gifting became so common that by the late sixties almost every house had one.
