The Tittleton Glass studio is a wee gem nestled in native Waitakere bush. It also sits on land that has been in Toni Tittleton’s family for generations. She grew up here on a massive farm flanked by both her Aunt’s and Grandma’s farms and talks nostalgically about huge family gatherings on the porch only meters away from her self-made container studio. The container doors even open out to reveal her late Grandfather's old red tractor, here at the Tittleton Glass studio family are always close by.
Toni is a fiercely creative and incredibly determined artist. Glass art is one of the hardest practices to maintain and many glass art graduates succumb to the numerous challenges they face when out in the everyday world. The industrial equipment and expensive materials are difficult to attain, and then there is the issue of space...you need a lot. We are very lucky to have worked with Toni for a number of years and know very well that she never gives up on a challenge! Getting to this stage in her career has taken constant diligence and she is a member of a very small community of NZ glass artisans.
Glass art is understandably rare so we are beyond delighted that she has launched her very first retail range with us at Creative & Brave.
Toni is a well established New Zealand glass artist who has exhibited across the country, injected a youthful energy into the art glass community and earned the respect of her peers. Toni is now on the board of the New Zealand Society of Artists in Glass (NZSAG) and works hard to maintain connections among artists and develop platforms for ongoing exhibitions.
From her very first hand made glass blob (pictured in the above banner) Toni has been spellbound by the medium. The tiny bubbles in that clear orb propelled her into a creative practice which centers on capturing the magical moment when solid glass transforms into its liquid state. The rising bubbles, the merging of colours and the transparent rivers coursing into the opaque beautifully capture movement in a solid form.
We could talk forever about our kind and uniquely talented team member Toni but we will leave it here for now and instead invite you to visit her yourself at our Newmarket and Commercial Bay locations, or even better enroll into one of her incredible art glass tutorials where you spend a weekend at the studio creating your own one of a kind glass sculpture.
