JS Ceramics is a family affair with Jenny Watt at the helm. Both the studio and Jenny's home are located in the harbour-side rural Te Puna, among orchards and lifestyle farms. Jenny is largely self taught and has been creating ceramics for 11 years now. All JS Ceramic items are designed and handmade from scratch by Jenny Watt, her husband Tom and a small team of local craftspeople who also love ceramics.
Their work space is in a lovely sunny spot near the Waikaraka estuary inlet, an ideal place for a studio. It is a very peaceful area and completely condusive to the creative process of making the ceramics. The team enjoy the lifestyle that the Bay of Plenty offers and frequently pop out for some fishing or other water sports after work.
All pieces are slip-cast using beautiful white NZ earthenware clay, and glazed by hand before kiln firing. A lot of care goes into hand-crafting each piece, and they're all slightly different depending on the glazer.
